How to open a 3g modem. How to connect a modem to an Android tablet - we make the virtual world mobile. Possible problems and solutions

Modems for working in 3G networks from leading mobile operators fit very well into the concept of laptop operation. They are compact, not tied to a specific place, as they work by wireless technology, and provide an acceptable speed of data transmission / reception. Often they become the only possible solution in cases where, for various reasons, it is impossible to connect wired unlimited Internet. Their significant drawback is only high tariffication of incoming and outgoing traffic. But when there is no choice, then there is no choice. All that remains is to connect the modem and use traffic sparingly.

How to connect a 3G modem to a laptop
  1. Remove the protective cap that protects the device from dirt and plug the modem into one of the free USB ports on the laptop. The USB port is designed in such a way that you can connect to its connector only in one position of the modem. If the modem does not fit into the USB port with little effort, then try turning it 180 degrees around its axis. Do not use excessive force to avoid bending the pins of the modem and connector. After using and removing the modem from the laptop, it is recommended to close it with a protective cap.
  2. Some models of modems are equipped with an on / off button. If this switch is also present on your modem, then set it to the on position.
  3. Wait while the computer detects the new device and recognizes it. The fact that the device is recognized can be recognized by the inscription "device is installed and ready to work" in the lower right part of the screen.
  4. Check the power of the wireless USB modem. When a device is installed in the USB port, the LED indicator on the modem should be on, indicating that power is supplied from the computer, since 3G modems do not have a built-in power source.
  5. Install the modem management software from the supplied disc. After successful installation of the drivers and software, a new device corresponding to the USB modem should appear in the control panel. If the control panel on this device has exclamation marks in yellow triangles, it means that there were some errors during the installation process. Uninstall the modem software, restart your laptop, and then try reinstalling it. If the problem persists, contact your carrier's consultants for support.
  6. Start the modem control program, enter the username and password issued by the cellular operator, and try to connect to the Internet and start traveling on the World Wide Web.
To control the modem, the program icon should appear in the taskbar in the lower right corner after installing the software. Using this program, you will be able to control the speed of data reception / transmission, see the state of your personal account and statistics of traffic consumption by day.

If you become the proud owner tablet computer with support for wireless Internet via an external 3G modem and when connecting a USB modem, there is no long-awaited connection to the Internet, then do not worry, this article will help you make simple settings, equipment to solve this problem.

Not always, but still they meet tablet pads, for which to connect a 3G modem, you need to make sure that the modem works in "modem only"... The fact is that many modern USB modems consist not only of a 3G module with a SIM card slot, but also have internal memory and a microSD card slot... It turns out a kind of multifunctional device that not all tablets are able to completely digest. After all, initially USB 3G modems were created for laptops and desktop personal computers with more powerful hardware and operating systems. Therefore, for ease of connection and getting rid of unnecessary CDs with drivers, all programs and drivers are written to the internal memory of the modem. Agree, it's convenient - I inserted a modem and went to drink coffee, while all the drivers and programs are installed by the computer itself, the user will only have to click on the "Connect to the Internet" button.

Some budget tablet computers cannot "digest" such complex modems without additional preparation, because when connected, they first of all see the internal memory of the modem with some unfamiliar drivers written for Windows and MacOS, not for Linux (Android) the tablet is running on, so the tablet cannot install 3G internet connection.

Therefore, before using 3G modem with such moody tablet computer you should "conjure" a little over the modem on the computer and enable the "only modem" mode to disable the CD-emulator with drivers and microSD adapter... (When using the modem with a PC or laptop on which the modem drivers are not installed, do not forget to follow the procedure in the reverse order and turn on all additional modem modules)

Be sure to copy the drivers and software from the virtual CD of the modem before using this method.

This information will not be erased from the modem's memory, however, it may not be available for reading in the future. Therefore, we recommend that you save it first.

1. For modems HUAWEI E1550, E1750 a set of commands is known that allows you to manipulate the functions of enabling and disabling the internal CD-ROM, flash drive and the modem itself.

  • AT ^ U2DIAG = 0 (device in modem only mode)
  • AT ^ U2DIAG = 1 (device in modem + CD-ROM mode)
  • AT ^ U2DIAG = 255 (device in modem + CD-ROM + Card Reader mode)
  • AT ^ U2DIAG = 256 (device in modem + Card Reader mode, can be used as a regular USB flash drive, refusing to install modem drivers)

If you use the command AT ^ U2DIAG = 0 then the modem will be defined by devices only as a modem, which is what we need.

How to switch a 3G modem to "modem only" mode on a computer running OS WINDOWS.

For ZTE modem AT commands are as follows:

  • AT + ZCDRUN = 8 disable CD
  • AT + ZCDRUN = 9 enable CD

How to connect a 3G modem to an Android tablet?

1.) Depending on tablet computer, you must first set the modem to modem only mode as described above. If the modem has already been switched to this mode before, or you have a new model of a tablet computer that supports modems in normal mode, then proceed to the next step.

2.) Go to the menu:

Settings-> Wireless networks-> Mobile networks

3.) Make sure to check the box next to "Data transfer". If not, then set it.

After entering all the parameters, press the "Menu" button on the tablet again, and then - "Save"

6.) Returning to the list of "Access points (APN)", we look to see that the configured access point has been selected and wait 10-15 seconds. The 3G icon will appear(or just "G" if there is no 3G coverage or the signal is weak)

7.) We check the work of the Internet by launching any browser.

If the desired page has loaded, then that's all and configuration of 3G modem for Android tablet is completed, otherwise, check again step by step the correctness of the actions taken.

Probably, every tablet owner is familiar with such a situation when the Internet is urgently needed, and there is not a single Wi-Fi signal nearby. In this case, only a modem and a 3G module help. But if you do not have the latter, do not be upset, because most modern tablets can work with a modem and through an ordinary OTG cable. How to connect to a 3G modem? Read about this further in our article.

Modem properties

To begin with, a few words about what this device is. 3G modem is a transmitting and receiving element that serves for data exchange via a radio communication channel. Each 3G modem is connected to its own mobile operator.

According to their capabilities, these elements are capable of transmitting information at speeds up to several megabits per second. In addition, unlike cable Internet, the network on modems "catches" almost everywhere where there is a mobile connection. Therefore, such devices are indispensable for those who often travel and go on a business trip. Some tablets have their own connector - a module for reading SIM cards. In this case, the tablet itself works as a modem, without additional settings (except for the basic ones). The communication range itself can be very diverse - WCDMA, UMTS, HSDPA, as well as HSPA +. But if there is no such module, you have to work hard to connect the modem to the gadget via the OTG cable. Basically, the connection speed and data transfer quality are the same in both cases. The only difference is that without a SIM card module, you have to connect the modem directly via a short cable to the device, and this causes some inconvenience with frequent use of the Internet.

Features of tablets

Let's find out what elements a modern modem consists of. This element includes two main components: a flash drive that stores data for connection, as well as the 3G module itself. And if laptops and PCs automatically recognize these two details, then tablets most often see the modem as an ordinary USB flash drive. In order for your gadget to recognize it correctly, you need to make a few simple manipulations. We will talk about them in the following paragraphs. By the way, on almost all Android tablets, the tablet-type is connected via an OTG cable. This is a universal USB cable with which the gadget can recognize and read any flash drives, enter and copy any information.

How to connect 3G modem to Android? Switching to "modem only" mode

There are two main ways you can tweak it in the right direction. Let's consider the first one. For this we need a 3GSW program and a computer. Download this utility to your PC. Next, insert the modem into the connector and open the program. In the menu that appears, press the "only modem" button and press the exit. As you can see, the method is pretty simple. However, it has one significant drawback - it does not work on all modems. In this regard, we will consider an alternative way to switch to modem only mode.

To do this, we again need a computer and Internet access. Download the trial version of the HyperTerminal utility. Next, connect the modem to the computer, start Windows. In the list of equipment, we find our 3G element and go to its properties. 3G modem next? Next, select the "modem" button and rewrite the speed and port number. After we start HyperTerminal and specify the connection name in the connections (it can be arbitrary). Then, in a new window, enter the rewritten port number, connection speed and click "ok". In the opened tab, write the command "ate1", and then "at ^ u2diag = 0". We are waiting for the answer "ok", turn off the modem.

Root rights

In order for our modem to work correctly in the future, we need to open Root rights. What it is? Root is a login to log into a user account. In this case, it is "admin". Simply put, these rights give us all the administrator's capabilities (as in Windows OS):

  1. Editing system files.
  2. The right to change the visual design of the Android OS, replace labels.
  3. Saving and changing the settings of system applications, as well as their backup.
  4. The right to remove old and install new applications.

Connecting a 3G modem to Android - how to get administrator rights?

The first method is the most popular - its essence lies in the use of certain programs. However, it should be noted that they all have their own list and their limited number of supported devices. The most popular ones are:

  • Kingo Android Root.
  • Unlock Root Pro.
  • Super One Click (ideal for Android 4.0 operating systems).

3G-modem can be connected by another method. It consists in using android applications. The main advantage of this method is the absence of the need to use a personal computer, as in the first method. The entire rooting process is performed using only the tablet itself, without additional devices. Most popular android rooting apps:

  • Universal AndRoot.
  • Z4root.
  • Framaroot.

It is worth noting that most programs of this type use system vulnerabilities - exploits to gain administrator rights. Because of this, antivirus programs installed on the tablet may perceive the operation of these utilities as a threat and block their action. However, this is not so - all programs are absolutely safe and harmless (of course, provided that you download them from sites you know).

The next way will be to install the firmware already with activated administrator rights. Most often, in addition to Root rights, they have a number of other improved modifications. The most popular of these is CyanogenMod.

This program allows not only to expand user rights, but also makes it possible to change all system settings. This is:

  • Quick settings panel.
  • Themes.
  • Lock screen.
  • Buttons on the external control panel.
  • Navigation bar and bar.
  • Arrangement of external labels.
  • Expansion screen.
  • Sound settings, music effects.
  • Profile and screen configuration.
  • Language settings and input.
  • Additional menu with device parameters.
  • Clock widgets, event indicators and many, many other useful functions.

Changing the tablet settings for working with a modem

So, we already have administrator rights. How to connect Android tablet further? To do this, we need to download the PPP Widget application in the Play Store and install it on the gadget. To make it more convenient for us to work, create a small shortcut on the desktop with the installed program.

Further, on the utility developer's website, we find a driver specifically for our brand and tablet model. The driver must be placed in a folder under the address "sdcard / pppwidget / lib". Then we connect the modem using the OTG cable and go to the settings menu of the "PPP Widget" widget.

We find the section "Connection parameters" and register all those settings that were provided by your operator (access point, etc.). We save the settings and try to connect to the Internet. After reconnecting the modem, the Internet should appear in the tablet. Also, a small "3G" icon will appear on top of the main background, as shown in the photo below:

What if the Internet did not appear?

In this case, you need to determine if the modem is in the list of supported for your tablet. If it is incompatible, you will have to replace the modem with one that is in this list.

Conclusion

So, we figured out how to connect an Android tablet to a 3G modem with our own hands. As you can see, you can configure and connect the modem to the gadget in a few minutes. But most importantly, in order to connect Android 3G-modem USB, you do not need to have special computer knowledge and special tools.

Why can an instruction on how to connect a USB 3G modem to a router be useful? There can be a lot of obscene reasons, but, in fact, they are not always justified. What does this mean? For example, you were going to install equipment for installing the Internet, have already prepared for a call from an Internet provider, and you were unexpectedly presented with a 3G modem to access the network. You might think: why then do you even need a provider with meter wires, connecting a telephone line (not always), if you can just insert a SIM card and enjoy watching online movies by installing this USB modem into your computer. To answer this question, let's take a closer look at such a wonderful device.

Users strive to ensure that the 3G modem provides access to the Internet for more than one device

USB 3G-modem allows any user to get access to the world wide web, just by inserting this device into a special slot on a laptop or computer. It is very convenient. You will not need to wait for the arrival of the master, go to the headquarters of Internet providers, select tariffs. It is enough to connect the device to a computer and follow the simplest instructions. Since the USB 3G modem works through a SIM card inserted into it, it is advisable to keep in mind the signal level in your room. Depending on this, choose the most suitable network. If, for example, Megafon does not catch well in your house, then you should not buy a modem with a SIM card of the specified operator. And vice versa, if Megafon shows a high quality 3G (or 4G) signal, then it is better to take it.

Despite the large number of advantages, such a modem also has a number of disadvantages. These include the fact that only the device to which such a modem is connected will receive access to the World Wide Web. Of course, there are ways to fix these problems (for example, using third-party software). Also, developers have foreseen the popularity factor. Therefore, portable 3G Wi-Fi routers are now especially famous. Their only drawback is that they need to be charged. But there are no portable non-rechargeable devices, so you have to come to terms with this.

Now let's get back, in fact, to our question: connecting a USB 3G modem to a router. It will be useful if the traffic and speed provided by the modem are enough for you, and there is a wireless router at home (although you can also buy it). Then you can connect to the network from any device that has wireless Wi-Fi services. But it is also important to note that not all routers support the function of connecting an external modem. Therefore, before buying, consult with a specialist or read the instructions in detail.

Let's move on to our operation:

  1. First, install the necessary software from the supplied disks or devices, otherwise nothing will work.
  2. If your SIM card has a PIN code check, be sure to disable it. This can be done using a regular phone.
  3. Connect the router to the power supply and install a 3G USB modem in its corresponding socket.
  4. Now you need to log into the router's control panel. If you do not know how to do this, then refer to the instructions of the device. In most cases, this panel is located at the following address: http://192.168.1.1.
  5. You need to explain to the router where to get the Internet from for distribution. Go to the "Connection" tab of the "Internet" menu item. In the right part of the window, check the box next to "Enable modem connection". Select an operator and fill in the required fields. Ready!

Now you know how to connect a 3G USB modem to a router. If all actions are completed successfully, then you will have a working Internet connection. Do not forget that the speed of such a modem may be limited. Although there has been practically no such problem lately. Now the tariffs differ according to the available incoming traffic. It is also advisable to note that such a connection will cost more in service than through a fiber-optic network or telephone provider. But the choice is always up to the user. Enjoy your use! Share your opinion and experience in the comments.

Wireless modems operating in the MegaFon cellular network have become widespread among subscribers who need Internet access. The ability to access the network anywhere in the city, and even outside the city, attracts many. But after buying a device, many have a question - how to set up a 3G or 4G modem from MegaFon on a computer or laptop? In our articles, we also discussed all the ways to speed up the Megafon modem if the network access speed does not meet any standards.

In most cases, no configuration is needed.... But some users do not like the standard methods of connecting and configuring modems. Therefore, we decided to compile a detailed review in which we will tell you how to properly configure the 3G modem from MegaFon E173 and the like. The configuration of routers will also be considered.

How to set up a modem through the Megafon program

In order to configure the MegaFon modem on the computer, we will use the software "embedded" in the modem.

The configuration process is carried out in several steps:

  • We connect the device to a free USB port;
  • We are waiting for the autorun to be triggered;
  • We carry out the installation of the built-in software MegaFonInternet;
  • We are waiting for the automatic installation of drivers;
  • Launch the program, waiting for the modem to be detected;
  • Click on the "Connect" button and go online.

That is, there is nothing complicated here - installation and configuration are performed automatically... At the same time, the program prescribes a standard profile for organizing Internet access through MegaFon's networks. Here we can register any other profiles, for example, for accessing a network with a fixed IP address (the name of the access point changes). You can learn how to flash a MegaFon modem for all SIM cards from the article posted on the pages of our website.

Configuring the modem using standard Windows tools

As already mentioned, some users do not like the standard MegaFonInternet program. Therefore, we can get rid of it and prescribe manual settings for network access. To do this, go to Control Panel - Network and Sharing Center and select Set up a connection or network.

Next, select the Internet connection, and specify Dial-up connection as the connection type. The next step is to specify the connection settings. Here we indicate the standard dial-up number * 99 # and the connection name. You do not need to fill in the Name and Password fields, since MegaFon does not ask for them.

After the connection is created, you should go to its properties and uncheck the "Prompt for a name, password, certificate, etc." checkbox, on the "Security" tab, set the "Check Protocol (CHAP)" checkbox. After that, click OK and complete the settings. You do not need to set the modem initialization string, since it is already registered in the modem itself. Therefore, we boldly click on the connect button and go online.

Configuring a router to work with a modem

We have already figured out how to set up a MegaFon USB modem on a computer. Let's now discuss the situation when we need to configure the modem connected to the router. Here we must understand that to create such a bundle, you need a router that works correctly with 3G modems... The process of setting up the router is quite simple - we connect the modem to the USB port of the router and send it to reboot.

Next, go to the administrative panel and select the 3G connection settings item. As a rule, this item is placed on a separate line in the general menu. Also, many routers already have built-in support for automatic settings for creating a connection to certain cellular networks, including MegaFon. If there are no automatic settings, we register the data manually.
