Dedicated to

to all today's entrepreneurs who struggle, strive for and achieve success, and the entrepreneurs of tomorrow who see opportunities where others see only obstacles, as well as dreamers who act boldly, leaving, like King Midas, their mark on the economic landscape of the world ...

We would like to thank all those who have consistently supported our passion for business and desire to learn the art of entrepreneurship. Without them, this book, based on our experience, could not have been born.

I would also like to pay tribute to our victories and defeats, successes and failures, because without a certain balance of ups and downs in life, we could not grow and develop and would not become who we are today.

Special thanks go to Meredith McIver and Katie Heasley, who edited the manuscript, as well as Allen Weiselberg, Michael Cohen, Ron Graff and Jonathan Gross of the Trump Organization, Mike Sullivan, Marian van Dyck, Anita Rodriguez, Michael Joe, Rhonda Hitchcock and Monet Gambette of Rich Dad and Plata Publishing. Their help and knowledge of the subject played a significant role in the appearance of this book.

Finally, we would like to express our gratitude to all entrepreneurs who are innovative and take risks in overcoming obstacles to a better life for themselves, their families and millions of people in this world.

There is no nobler cause than entrepreneurship, and we applaud you for your efforts, successes and contributions to the development of the world.

Foreword by Mark Barnett

The ability for all entrepreneurs to succeed is the same quality - focus on the goal, not allowing you to deviate from the chosen course.

Many years ago, long before I met Donald, I read his first book, The Art of Making Deals. At the time, I was selling T-shirts on an Los Angeles beach, and I read it between shoppers. I especially liked the fact that it seemed to be specially written for people like me - for those who have never attended any business school. I admired the biggest authority in the real estate industry, Donald Trump, but I never imagined that I would ever personally see him and get to know him. And of course, I could not even imagine that I would conduct joint business with him.

I especially remember one passage from that book where Donald talks about how he recognizes losers. For him, a loser is a man in a dirty car with the sign "For Sale". How often do we see this or a similar picture in a wide variety of business areas!

Robert has sold over 30 million copies of his books in many countries around the world. He has something to say to people. He considers himself primarily a teacher. I can say the same about Donald. His television show The Candidate has a powerful educational connotation, and this, in my opinion, is one of the reasons for Donald's immense popularity.

The book "The Gift of Midas" speaks first of all about the responsibility of modern entrepreneurship to people. That is why it is very relevant. We need people who can create jobs. Anyone capable of becoming a businessman must develop these skills in order to give back to society. The authors of the book are successful entrepreneurs who, having come to success in different ways, view the problem from different points of view.

Everyone who wants to join the ranks of entrepreneurs should pay attention to this book.

These people are characterized by focus on the goal and persistent pursuit of it. I've seen these traits in Donald for a long time. They are also characteristic of Robert. Their enthusiasm and passion is obvious to everyone. They do not stop there and are making more and more progress. I hope you have time to listen to what they have to tell you.

Introduction

Dreamer or entrepreneur?

An entrepreneur with a passion for mechanics since childhood decided to change the world. He dreamed of improving the living conditions of mankind and imagined how this could be done. Therefore, he set as his goal not personal enrichment, but the creation of a new way of life for the most ordinary people.

He had to work hard to perfect his idea, create countless variations of his products, each of which was slightly better than the previous one, and found his own company. But the biggest problem was that people were not able to look at the dream through his eyes and see things not as they are, but as they might be. There were many battles on his way, and he even began to doubt himself. He had to make compromises and retreat. He often failed, but in such cases he turned to his favorite saying: "Failure is an opportunity to start all over again, but smarter."

He could not boast of a good education and studied very little in school, but he loved to disassemble various mechanisms in order to understand how they work. His favorite pastime was to disassemble the watch. He did not have academic degrees and titles. He only attended evening school, but his brilliant mind made him an excellent teacher. He was attracted by students who had the same enthusiasm as himself. In the late evenings, they worked on projects and delved deeper into technical processes. He had an enviable ability to attract talents and collaborate with people. He surrounded himself with co-workers who knew what he did not know.

He excelled at convincing investors who believed in and invested money in his products. The only problem was that they didn't believe in his dream. Their obsession solely with money sometimes drove him to despair. Once he was even fired from his own company, which bore his name. A weaker person in his place would give up and look for another occupation.

Several years earlier, he had given up a reliable and stable job in a well-known company. Entrepreneurship did not pay off financially, and his family repeatedly had to change their living conditions to more and more modest ones. And it was at this moment that his idol among entrepreneurs, whom he idolized since childhood, breathed into him confidence. He was fortunate enough to personally meet with him and briefly outline his plans. The man sitting opposite him slammed his fist on the table and exclaimed: “Young man, this is what we need! You are on the right track, do not turn off it. "

“This punch on the table became the most important thing in the world for me,” our entrepreneur later told his patient wife. "This year, I won't have to be at home that often." In fact, the matter was not limited to one year. Success had to wait for more than one decade.

Answers to questions rarely come in the form of insight. Henry Ford was no exception. He watched the world around him and gradually moved towards his goal, using every opportunity. He proved that an entrepreneur doesn't have to invent something new. The key to his huge success was something more valuable - a new approach to well-known things. Cars that had previously been made only for individual customer orders did not fit into Henry Ford's vision of the world. He wanted everyone to be able to take advantage of the luxury previously available only to the wealthy.

Henry Ford wanted to change the world and believed that cars with an internal combustion engine, assembled at a factory and no different from each other, would help to do this. His idol, the famous inventor Thomas Edison, also believed in this. It was his punching on the table that inspired Ford and gave him the strength to continue on a path that lasted many years and was accompanied by countless setbacks.

Henry did not give up on his great dream. Once, during a Sunday sermon in church, he heard the priest's words: "Direct your way to the star" - and said to his sister: "This is what I will do." It was in 1893, and ten years later, on July 23, 1903, the Chicago dentist Ernst Pfenning ku - drank the world's first production car "Ford A".

This is how Henry Ford went from being a dreamer to an entrepreneur.

Introduction

Entrepreneur Entrepreneur Strife

This book is about entrepreneurs and how they differ from each other. It is intended for those who are already engaged in entrepreneurial activities or are just making such plans.

This is not a textbook written by university professors. We are not trying to portray reality in rosy tones and do not give an exact recipe for success. Both are far from reality, but we wanted to write a book as close to reality as possible. After all, we ourselves are entrepreneurs who achieved victories, suffered defeats and again rose to our feet to continue the struggle. The book is compiled from our frankly told stories.

The ability to dream, win, fail, and fight again is often referred to as the entrepreneurial spirit. This is exactly what distinguishes entrepreneurs from everyone else who does business in one way or another. This is the difference between those who want to be an entrepreneur and those who might be.

Work on the book went on for almost three years. We started this project because we sincerely believe that only entrepreneurs create real jobs. And this is exactly what the modern world needs, which suffers from unprecedentedly high unemployment rates, which create the basis for social unrest and can lead to revolution. This was confirmed by the riots in the Middle East in 2011. Their main driving force has become people who are ready, able and willing to work, but do not have such an opportunity, since they live in countries where unemployment has long been a scourge. China shudders at the mere thought that its export growth could slow down, as in this case the country faces the prospect of millions of unemployed. Similar concerns are troubling the US government, which is spending billions of dollars on various government job creation programs.

But the problem is that no government really can create jobs. Only entrepreneurs can do this. Only they are able to discern the future and turn it into reality, risking in every possible way, suffering defeats and winning victories. They create new industries and new opportunities for people around the world.

Another problem is that schools do not train entrepreneurs. They carry out the task of training employees. That is why people have a stereotype: "You have to study well in order to get a good job." Most schoolchildren and even college students will be self-employed rather than entrepreneurs. Every year, millions of college graduates leave college, burdened with huge student debt, but unable to find a job. Many people these days are either looking for a job or are afraid of losing it. Therefore, we need more entrepreneurs who can create jobs.

In 2007, a financial crisis hit - the largest since the Great Depression. Since then, many have been waiting for the economy to recover. She, of course, will recover, but it will not be the same as before. The old economy of the industrial era is dying, and in its place the economy of the information age is emerging, and it will develop according to completely different rules. The attributes of the industrial era - life-long work at one firm, pensions, benefits, trade union protection - will not be able to survive in the new conditions.

Many of the Fortune 500 companies today were born and will die with the industrial era, and the crisis will spawn new firms for the new list. They will be led by a new class of entrepreneurs.

Our book was written just for such entrepreneurs and for those who want to become them. It's not about business. It's about what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur.

In this our second book together, we will share with you our secrets that allow us to become like the mythical king Midas, who turned everything he touched into gold.

The book is divided into five chapters, each of which symbolizes one finger on Midas's hand. In each of them, we tell our own individual stories, followed by a summary with objective assessments of the key topics covered. The chapter concludes with information for thought and action that each of you is capable of.

Five fingers are the five main factors in the activity of any entrepreneur who dreams of success. They don't talk about them in schools.

The hand of Midas is the perfect metaphor for successful entrepreneurship. Learn to master every finger - and you will understand why some entrepreneurs are always lucky and most others are not.

The thumb symbolizes strength of character. Without it, the entrepreneur will not be able to survive the falls and disappointments that inevitably accompany the process of giving birth to something new from nothing. Uncharted lands are always full of dangers.

The index finger symbolizes concentration. To be successful, an entrepreneur must focus on it.

The middle - longest - finger represents your brand. Create a strong brand for yourself and do your best to ensure that the whole world knows about it. Without this, you cannot become Midas.

The ring finger is a relationship. You must be able to both find a good partner and be a good partner yourself. Success is built on relationships with a wide variety of people.

Finally, the smallest finger, the little finger, symbolizes various little things that can sometimes take on enormous significance. Only mastery of details can lead to success. We will show you what little things you need to pay attention to in order to attract customers and ensure the prosperity of your business.

Each of these factors is important in its own way. Only by bringing together all your knowledge, skills and experience, you can awaken the magical power of Midas. Our world needs it. We need more entrepreneurs to tackle global challenges such as job security and financial security. Therefore, we welcome everyone who is ready to follow in the footsteps of Midas.

How to turn failure into success

Robert Kiyosaki

In early 2000, my friends and I went to rest in the Australian outback, far from civilization. We found ourselves in one of the most beautiful corners of the world. It took us almost a week to get to this remote place.

One evening the satellite phone rang. It was my wife Kim, who stayed at home in Phoenix.

- You won't believe it for anything! She exclaimed excitedly. - Oprah's producer called. She wants to invite you to Chicago for her program!

“Fine,” I replied, “but why me?

“She wants to talk about your life and about Rich Dad Poor Dad.

- Fine! Tell me that I agree.

- But the transmission is already in a few days.

- In a few days? - I even groaned in annoyance. - I just got here. Do you know how long it took to get there? Two days by plane and almost four days by car. Can't you postpone it to a later date?

- No. We have already prepared everything. The producer even tracked down rich dad's son to back up your story. - Kim was silent for a moment. - Do not miss this opportunity, come back. Your plane ticket is already waiting for you at Sydney airport.

Six days later, I was in Chicago.

The program was filmed at Oprah's own studio, Harpo Productions. A pretty young assistant walked me out of the green room into a studio packed to overflowing with Oprah's fans.

The audience was electrified. Everyone was expecting Oprah to appear. For a moment, I even forgot what I was here for. It completely flew out of my head that now I would be participating in a TV show together with the most influential and authoritative woman in show business. I knew that her programs were watched by over 20 million people in the United States alone and that they were broadcast in 150 countries around the world.

Looking around, I noticed two chairs in the middle of the stage. "I wonder, but for whom is the second one?" - I thought, and immediately froze, realizing that I was going to sit on it!

Suddenly the audience burst into applause and Oprah took the stage. In life, she made an even stronger impression than on TV. After Oprah greeted the audience, the assistant lightly touched my elbow and whispered, "It's time."

I held my breath and thought, "It's too late to rehearse."

An hour later, the program came to an end. The audience applauded. Oprah said goodbye to the audience. As soon as the cameras turned off, she came up to me, smiled and said, "Well, rich dad, I just sold a million copies of your book."

I published the book “Rich Dad Poor Dad” at my own expense, that is, I did not have to share my profits with the publisher. Although I was never good at math, I was good at money. All expenses included, I made $ 5 on each copy of the book. If Oprah's forecast of a million book sales was correct, then I made $ 5 million in an hour. The day turned out to be very profitable in every way. Then I still did not fully realize that in just an hour I became a world celebrity from an unknown person. You probably know that fame sometimes tempts much more than money.

The reason why I had to publish the book at my own expense was very simple: all the publishers I contacted refused me. Most publishers said politely enough that they weren't interested in the topic. Two responded, in the spirit of my high school English teacher, that I must first learn to write. One said: “This is some completely absurd story! None of the readers will believe in it. " And in one publishing house that specializes in financial literature, they told me: "You don't know anything about what you write about." As proof, I was quoted from a book where I argued that owning a house is not an asset, but a liability. I wonder if the editor changed his mind when the subprime mortgage crisis hit and millions of homes were taken from owners for non-payment?

Faced with this attitude, Kim and I published 1,000 copies of the book at our own expense and distributed them to guests at my birthday in April 1997.

Between 1997 and 2000, reviews of the book were passed by word of mouth. Friends gave it to their acquaintances to read, and those to their relatives. This is how gradually my book (the only one published at my own expense) made its way to the New York Times bestseller list. Shortly thereafter, there was a call from producer Oprah. It took me ten years to realize that Oprah had helped me sell over 22 million copies of Rich Dad Poor Dad in over 100 countries. Today it has been translated into over 50 languages. That's how strong Oprah's influence is.

Immediately after the program aired, journalists began to harass me. Most of them loved my simple story of two dads, but some were skeptical, critical, and even vicious.
