Planning Motivation Control

The house of horror in san diego online broadcast. Eight hours of horror in the scariest house in the world. Step-by-step plan for starting a fear room business

Natalia Krechetova already plans to expand her business, actively sell franchises and create new projects. About how she manages to make money on strong emotions, she tells "Kontur.Zhurnal".

From sketches to a business plan

I never had a goal of becoming an entrepreneur, in 2010 I graduated from Russian State University tourism and service in the specialty "computer analyst". For about three years she worked in a Moscow digital agency as an SMM marketer, was a popular video blogger in Perm.

His own business started with a childhood dream and perhaps a little naive desire to create a real haunted house. By 2009, I had a plan for a completely new attraction, which would cause people not only fear, but also a whole range of different emotions, give them an experience that they would gladly share with friends later. At that moment, no one believed in my idea, but I really wanted to create something really unusual. It was difficult for me to clearly communicate my idea to someone else, but I had a vision, I was confident that people would like the Black Room.

Until there was start-up capital to start a business, I drew sketches of scenery, thought over every little thing and transferred everything to paper. Soon I had a fairly detailed model of what should be inside the future attraction. The business plan appeared in the second stage - it was needed to participate in the regional competition of student business projects "Big Okhota". Now I can already say for sure that those first plans turned out to be rather far from the final result.

Abandoned buildings and pine forest

The initial investment in the Black Room was my own savings. It is very difficult to attract outside money to a new attraction, such a business is not like opening an understandable online store or a service for repairing washing machines. The help of my brother helped me a lot at the start, and after much doubts he supported me. Probably, if not for him and his help, the attraction would have remained in my dreams.

At the stage of entering the market, the most great complexity arose with a room for a future attraction. Finding the right one turned out to be a daunting task. We needed a corridor-room type premise with a low rental price. I found it by accident: I came to look at one room, and when I was about to leave, I noticed our current buildings on the territory. They, of course, were in a terrible state, they had been abandoned for 10 years. But my brother and I cleared everything, took out all the rubbish, laid the floors, made windows and doors. In appearance, the buildings are small, but inside they seem huge, in them visitors easily lose their orientation in space and time. Now we already have two buildings, next to a pine forest, squirrels, woodpeckers and the cleanest air, so there is where to take a breath and relax after the attraction!

Non-standard option for rest and crisis

When we entered the market in June 2012, there were practically no competitors. The Panic Room in Gorky Park (lasting 80 seconds) does not count. The niche was completely free and there weren't even potential competitors on the horizon. Immediately after the opening of the Black Room, the wow effect and word of mouth were triggered. I put a piece of my soul into the attraction, did what I myself would like to visit and see. And people felt it.

There are a lot of peculiarities of working with clients. In the process, I closely followed the reaction of people, what emotions they have, what they then write in blogs and social networks. She even carried out an internal classification of clients: there are "fast people", "researchers", "commentators", "cowards" and many other types. Now we are positioning ourselves as an attraction of fear and adventure, in which everyone gets a lot of unforgettable emotions. We surprise, we make people laugh, cry, be afraid.

In the winter of 2014, other fear rides appeared in Perm, which copied us. The same period saw the boom of quest rooms in the region. But we are still the first. The development of the "Black Room" continues: the wishes of customers are taken into account, adjustments are made, something is added. We try to become more interesting so that the emotions experienced by clients are deeper, sharper, more diverse.

Now we are developing a franchise in Magnitogorsk, thinking about the third building of the attraction and new projects . I am not telling anyone about them yet. I will only say that they will again be directed to unusual emotions, will again surprise and delight.

During the crisis, many residents deny themselves their usual entertainment, visit restaurants and movies less often, spend more time at home and watch TV. Entertainment is not food, you can refuse them for a while. But the "Black Room" is rarely included in the list of standard routes for recreation, so we have a decline, if there is, it is quite small.

If you decide to become an entrepreneur, then do your business with heart. First of all, think about the product, make it high-quality, cool, think over every detail and every situation, and in the very last case, think about money. After all, if the business is cool, then the money will come anyway.

About two months before the opening of the attraction, my entrepreneur friends asked me: “Do you have a business plan?”, “How much will it cost to visit the attraction?”, “When will it pay off?” At that time, I had no answers to these questions, even approximate ones. They laughed at me. To be honest, we figured out how much a visit to the attraction would cost two days before the opening, as it was necessary to write an announcement on social networks. And the attraction paid off in just four months.

55-year-old San Diego resident Russ McCamey and his girlfriend Carol Schultz have opened "Phantom Manor", the world's scariest horror house, where visitors are bound to be tied up, forced into a snake cage and doused with slippery fake blood. Incredibly, there are already 24 thousand people in the application queue. No one has ever withstood all the tests, not even the marines and extreme lovers, and dozens of adult men ran out of this room with tears in their eyes.

(11 photos total)

1. Visitors to the "Phantom Manor" with their hands tied were doused with fake blood.

2. Only two people can be in the mansion at a time.

3. Visitors must endure close contact with spiders and snakes.

4. Trials in the house of horrors can last up to eight hours, but no one has ever been able to overcome all the way from start to finish.

It is absolutely free to visit the McCamey mansion, and believe me, its owners are making every effort to diversify the tests. Before entering the house, daredevils must pass the obligatory medical checkup and obtain an appropriate permit confirming the absence of serious illnesses. Only persons who have reached the age of 21 are admitted.

5. The extreme enters the room, the walls of which are completely covered with artificial blood.

6. Grown men often leave the mansion with tears in their eyes, even the Marines and avid extreme sportsmen cannot withstand such stress.

7. Founder Russ McCamey and his girlfriend Carol Schultz change the subject of the test every year.

8. Visitors over the age of 21 can visit the "Ghost Manor" absolutely free of charge.

A loyal fan of horror films such as Psycho, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and The Haunted House, McCamey decided to found the “scariest house” with smoke and mirrors that would make even grown men cry. The couple spent more than 500 thousand dollars to realize their dream. “You will not find anything like this all over the world. It's like reliving your own horror movie. The mansion houses four different rooms designed specifically for hardcore fans who dare to go through it. All tests are highly interactive. These experiences and obstacles should show you what you can and cannot do, ”McCamey explains.

9. The couple spent over 500 thousand dollars to realize their dream.

10. Before entering the house, daredevils must undergo a mandatory medical examination and obtain appropriate permission.

11. Horror fan McCamey described his "Phantom Manor" as "Indiana Jones on steroids."

The interactive adventure is described as a real-life horror movie that visitors can record on camera, look at themselves from the outside, and relive all that fear once again. Everyone has the opportunity to watch the tests of other people using an online broadcast, one session of which lasts from four to eight hours.

We bring to your attention another business idea in the field of entertainment services: "a very scary attraction MONSTERIUM". The attraction is based on the psychology of human fear and is a cubicle measuring 2.5 by 3.5 meters, which is freely located on an area of 10m2. This is a kind of alternative to the classic dread rooms, which took up a much larger area and, accordingly, they could not be placed everywhere. And now, finally, the business has the opportunity to acquire a truly "compact" fear room.

According to the manufacturer, the attraction is really scary. The attraction uses zombie dolls that are not inferior to the characters of Hollywood films. The effect of fear increases when, before entering the room, you are notified that the administration of the attraction is not responsible for your emotional state.

During the session, the client's state is captured by the camera. Then the photo is handed to the participant of the attraction, and now he can share his emotions with his friends and colleagues.

IN this business word of mouth effect can work, when one satisfied customer can bring five more interested persons with him.

How much money is needed to start this business

The price of such a miracle attraction is 560,000 rubles. The amount is not small and such investments, especially for a novice entrepreneur, still need to be able to recoup. The first and main criterion for success here will be the choice of the place to install the fear room.

It is advisable to install such a booth in passable places, such as:

  • Large shopping centers;
  • Entertainment complexes and cinemas;
  • City amusement parks;
  • Embankments, places of large concentrations of tourists and vacationers. It is especially profitable to install such a booth in resort towns.

The undoubted advantage of placing a panic room in a shopping center is that our business becomes independent of the season, which cannot be said from placing a business in a summer park or on the embankment.

And also at the expense of investments. You can try to apply for participation in grant support for start-up entrepreneurs, within the framework of which you can be compensated up to 300 thousand rubles for the purchase of an attraction. For more information about the conditions of support, please contact your local administration or the business support center in your area.

Do I need a permit to open an amusement ride business

If you are a beginner entrepreneur, then in order to start a business, it is enough to register individual entrepreneurship in the local IFTS, choose a taxation system (STS) and register with off-budget funds as an employer. After receiving all the documents, you can go to negotiate a lease account with the management of the shopping center or the local administration, if a state site is leased for the installation of the attraction.

How much can you earn from the fear room

Let's calculate the approximate income from this attraction.

Let the average permeability shopping center is equal to 5000 people per day. According to pessimistic forecasts, only one person out of 200 passing through will use our service, that is, 0.005% of general flow shopping center visitors. The total number of clients per day is: 5000 people. * 0.005% = 25 people. With a ticket price of 200 rubles / person. revenue per day will amount to 5,000 rubles, respectively, 150,000 rubles per month.

Now the consumable part:

  1. Renting 10m2 in such a shopping center will cost at least 20,000 rubles / month. ;
  2. Salary for two operators - 15% of the proceeds or 22,500 rubles / month;
  3. Insurance deductions for employees and individual entrepreneurs - 9750 rubles / month;
  4. Taxes, simplified taxation system 6% of proceeds - 9000 rubles / month;
  5. Other administrative expenses and advertising - 10,000 rubles / month.

Total expenditure: 71,250 rubles per month.

Attraction profit: 150,000 - 71,250 = 78 750 rubles per month.

With a starting cost of 560,000 rubles, the investment will pay off in 7 months.

If the traffic of a shopping center or other place is higher, accordingly, the income will be higher.

At the same time, it is important that the booth is located on the first floor, at most on the second in a good visibility zone for each visitor of the shopping center.

If there is no such business in your city yet, then you can have time to “skim the cream”.

There are also disadvantages in this business! In small towns and villages it is better not to open up. Why? Because, having visited your attraction several times, people no longer need it, the monotony becomes boring. Therefore, it is necessary to install a fear room where there is a large flow of visiting people, tourists, well, or in cities with a population of 100 thousand people or more.

  • draw up an agreement that will be signed by all visitors to the dread room. Under its terms, the entrepreneur does not bear any responsibility for the potential mental trauma that visitors to the panic room may receive.

What equipment to choose for starting a business

The cost of a standard dread room franchise today reaches several million rubles. The equipment provided for the use of a businessman includes:

  • a copy of the act of registration with the tax office.

What taxation system to choose for business registration

Fear room business management technology
