Before starting work, read the requirements of the vacancy you are interested in. Adjust your profile as much as possible to the conditions set forth by the employer for this position.

Some applicants thoughtlessly enter data in the column “ business qualities»For a summary. There is no need to hope that the future boss will not even pay attention to her, although it happens that way. We strongly recommend that you take this point as seriously as those that you think are important.

Sane leaders not only pay attention to your personal qualities, but also carefully study them. Based on the data provided, the recruiter decides: to enroll the applicant as a priority candidate or leave his request on the bench.

Director of recruiting agency

A period of active search is a time when everyone should feel like an ideal worker.

And, of course, the applicant is simply obliged to indicate in his resume, thought out to the last comma, precisely this quality of his: the ability to cope with any task is not just good, but perfect.

It is important for a potential employer to know what kind of person came for an interview. It is this need that dictates the rules for drawing up a resume, albeit on the simplest form, which will "sell" the applicant even to a strict personnel officer.

So what personal and business qualities should you indicate on your resume so that the interview doesn't end with a dryish “we'll call you back”?

Personal qualities on the example of a resume

In the image, you can see a simple example of how to indicate personal and business qualities, as well as which section of the resume is most optimal for this information.

We sell personal qualities - we are engaged in self-promotion competently

Each person has a certain set of characteristics, which together make up the palette of his capabilities.

It is not just about professional skills - specific specialization, additional skills, or readiness to master new areas of knowledge. All these characteristics are, of course, important, but personal qualities should also be present in the resume.

Therefore, a section of a resume that presents business and personality traits can enhance employer representation about whether a person will be able to cope with the responsibilities associated with a particular position. And also - how soon the hired employee will join the team.

"The employer is important not only your professional skills, but also personal qualities"

Don't be shy! Even with the highest level specialization it will never be superfluous to indicate your positive personal characteristics in the resume. The main thing is not to overdo it.

Only in a single situation will such involuntary deception not affect the likelihood of being hired. For example, we are talking about the modeling business. Here, the applicant will not be required to positive traits those indicated in the resume coincided with the real ones: it is the ideal appearance that is important.

We indicate personal properties: look both ways!

What positive qualities in a resume can not always be indicated? Conditionally positive qualities, for example, include the following list:

  1. Ability to take initiative. With initiative, the easiest way is to "outplay".
    The bosses are not always supportive of the employees, who put forward another new concept at every meeting. Sometimes it is important for a person to have a subtle sense of the framework within which he must act in order to bring maximum benefit to the organization with his work.
    An employee who constantly tries to bypass instructions (an overly proactive employee) is unlikely to stay for a long time in a firm with a conservative routine.
  2. When to write: applicants applying for non-bureaucratic work - trade, R&D, etc.

  3. Communicative activity. Personal characteristics such as the ability to easily establish contact and the ability to negotiate with any counterparty are sometimes unnecessary information.
    In the eyes of a personnel officer who selects personnel for work that requires perseverance, the wording "contact" looks more attractive than "sociability".
  4. When to write: show business, acting, PR - spheres require high communication skills.

  5. A little about punctuality. As a rule, such positive qualities in a resume, such as the ability to thoroughly perform all the work according to the established algorithm and the ability not to be late for work, are only welcome.
    In practice, however, it turns out that each of us at some time deviates from such a valuable habit.
    Chronic delays of 2-5 minutes will lead to an undesirable effect on the part of the management of the company for which you wrote a resume and indicated "punctuality" in the column "positive personal characteristics".
  6. When to indicate: there is definitely nothing wrong. Therefore, if this personal property is really inherent in the applicant, the employer has the right to find out about it.

  7. Resistance to stress and self-control. Also conditionally positive characteristics.
    With the ability to maintain self-control in a difficult situation, the qualities of a person acquire a certain logical completeness, which, on the whole, looks quite attractive.
    But where is the guarantee that the boss also has these characteristics and he never breaks down on his subordinates? Who can know if the self-control of a subordinate will remain in such a critical situation?
  8. It makes sense to indicate these traits if: the personal qualities in the resume really coincide with the personal qualities; work does not require total control at every stage; the applicant is distinguished by increased persistence in achieving the goal.

  9. Diligence, efficiency. Self-evident characteristics are superfluous information.
    The job seeker is hired to work. And the point.
  10. There is no need to emphasize that a potential employee is going to fulfill his duties.

  11. Ability to learn new skills. The kind of characteristic that, while not negative, is not always appropriate on a resume.
  12. It is advisable to indicate this skill only young specialist or an applicant applying for a specific position.

We do not lose our sense of style

All positive characteristics, all personal qualities will pass a severe test. The interview is not limited to looking at the resume: the applicant will have to convince the HR officer that all the listed qualities "have a place to be."

If you indicated “loyalty and flexibility,” you shouldn't be asked about the reason for the change of job to recall the grievances associated with the previous leader. It is better, instead of describing the insidiousness of the former boss, to modestly note:

  • convenient location of the new office;
  • higher salary;
  • other neutral reasons.

An applicant who has indicated their learning ability must prepare for several tests. The quality that is valuable to the employer will be tested directly during the interview process.

This also applies to those who are asked: "What are your strengths will help you cope with the job we offer?" - Cheerfully declared his calmness and self-control. The psychologist on the staff of the company will most likely offer to keep such a balanced person in the waiting room for a couple of hours longer. Uncertainty and misunderstanding of the situation can unbalance many people.

Resume of the ideal job seeker

Summarize:
Personal and business qualities in a resume can be ... spy. Examples of well-written resumes are posted on many sites. It is worth carefully examining such sources of information. Dry, stereotyped phrases sometimes help to choose the optimal "set", which should be indicated in the questionnaire. But at the same time - do not overdo it, your qualities should coincide with your real personality, and besides that, fit the vacancy of the employer.

One of the guarantees of the success of any activity is the professionalism of the person involved, therefore it is so important to look at the business qualities of the employee. They make it possible to understand what he is capable of, what can be entrusted to him. It is advisable to analyze them when applying for a job; it is also important to remember about personal qualities, on which behavior with colleagues and management often depends. The list of those and others varies for different professions... They can be changed if necessary to advance the career ladder.

The applicant makes a mistake if he lists them in large numbers, without choosing the main ones related to this position. For the leader, this is a signal that he does not know how to isolate the necessary information.

The wording in the resume should be clear, concise, logical, not contradicting the rest of the information. It is desirable that they reflect the strengths of the individual, so that the connection between business qualities and professional achievements can be traced from the text.

Sometimes applicants for the position indicate on their resume not only their own the best sides but also the worst. This can have a double meaning: to testify to the honesty of a person and to show his shortsightedness. It is advisable to point out your shortcomings at the interview, where they will ask about it. The staff is selected according to the level of professionalism

What does an employer need

The qualities of the ideal worker are determined by the organizer of labor. This is the business owner or other person in charge of recruiting. For him, both business and personal qualities of the applicant are important. The business qualities of an employee are the ability to efficiently and timely perform tasks that are assigned to him by his superiors. This is possible with the appropriate education and work experience in the same field. The leader must understand whether new employee useful for the enterprise.

Assessing the personal qualities of applicants for a vacant position is another task of the manager. It is important that the newcomer is able to prove himself and become part of a friendly team. With the similarity of the business characteristics of the applicants, it is difficult to make a choice. A correct assessment of personal merit will allow you to choose the best candidate.

Professional quality

When applying for a job, the professional qualities of a person are assessed. The manager needs to know if the employee will be able to carry out his tasks. Which ones are most in demand:

  • education, specialty;
  • quick adaptation to new working conditions or quick learning;
  • readiness for overtime work;
  • professional integrity;
  • customer interaction skills;
  • teamwork skills.

Positive properties can relate to a certain mindset, external data or physical form. There are many options. Management preferences for employee characteristics differ. It depends on the characteristics of the profession and the personal wishes of the manager.

Personal characteristics

The personal characteristics of the applicant can make up for his professional shortcomings. Work skills will not help solve problems or conflicts in the team. Therefore, the following are taken into account:

  • discipline;
  • politeness;
  • sociability;
  • persistence;
  • tact;
  • stress tolerance.

The employees are also valued: enthusiasm, energy, dedication, punctuality and hard work.

Lack of sociability does not play into the hands of the employee

Indicating negative characteristics in a resume

Sometimes job applicants mention their negative qualities on their resume. This is not always harmful. Maybe a person is showing their honesty this way. We need to check it out. The most common negative qualities in a resume are:

  • lack of work experience or education;
  • the presence of bad habits;
  • straightforwardness;
  • inability to lie;
  • problems with a sense of humor.

The employee's attitude to work is idealized by him.

To clarify the situation with the shortcomings, you need to ask the applicant to tell about them in more detail. Then the "restlessness" indicated in the resume may turn out to be a desire to work at a fast pace, switching from one task to another.

And "straightforwardness" means the ability to negotiate with clients quickly and confidently. As a result, it will become clear to the manager what qualities of the applicant are hidden behind the clause "shortcomings".

Finding a good employee begins with the acceptance and analysis of a resume. In it, a person indicates his strengths. Leaders face the challenge of data similarity. This is typical for a resume in which positive qualities are mechanically entered into the column "professional and personal qualities": responsibility, attentiveness, punctuality, efficiency. This does not surprise the employer. Finding out what is meant is very simple: you need to ask the candidates about it. If a person tells in detail about his merits and gives examples, then he meets the requirements of the vacant position.

There is also advice for people looking for work. To make your resume high-quality and non-standard, replace the usual words with new ones: efficiency can mean being able to work with a lot of information or willingness to work overtime.

Employee assessment methods

There are more effective ways to select a candidate than a standard resume review and interview. The characteristic of an employee's business qualities can be assessed by specialists. Some enterprises have special departments for personnel assessment. Their work is based on the use of such techniques:

  • testing;
  • letters of recommendation;
  • exams;
  • psychological trainings (role-playing games and cases).

Popular and effective method personality assessments - role play. It artificially recreates the organization of work: the dramatization of difficulties, conflict situations in a collective.

In such a game, you can set a goal. This will help evaluate the positive and negative aspects of the competitors for the job.

Influence of the profession

Labor activity requires certain professional skills from a person. To simplify the process of finding a new employee, it is important to narrow down the pool of applicants for a vacant position. To do this, you need to indicate certain characteristics in the job advertisement:

  1. For the service sector: sociability, ability to work with clients, politeness, courtesy, flexibility of thinking, etc.
  2. For entertainment and promotion: teamwork, sociability, ability to motivate people, charm and energy.
  3. For office vacancies (accountant, system administrators and others): mathematical mindset, attentiveness, organization, ability to work with a large amount of information.

There are universal characteristics. Employers always value attentiveness, dedication, and resistance to stress. People looking for a job know this and put these qualities on their resume. It will not help to find a vacancy. The employer needs information about the specific skills of the applicant.

Professionalism and excellent knowledge in the field of the enterprise does not make a person the best among candidates for a job. There are qualities that may be more important: attentiveness, hard work and pleasant appearance in the service sector are critical.

For office workers these qualities are not so important. The list of requirements for a candidate for a job depends on the specifics of the job. Therefore, it is important to consider competitors comprehensively: their professional skills, personal qualities and lifestyle.

We will tell you how to check the business qualities of the applicant, what methods to use. We will share samples of documents, cheat sheets and tips.

Description of business qualities: an example of the profile of an ideal candidate for the position of "Risk Manager"

Assessment of the employee's business qualities

Evaluate the business qualities of an employee before hiring so as not to waste money and time testing unsuitable candidates. If the organization does not have a specialist who can identify the personal and professional qualities of personnel, contact the specialized centers for personnel assessment and certification.

Decide on the assessment criteria - rely on business qualities. To be effective, focus on the characteristics required for the position. To be confident in an employee, consider personality. Conduct an assessment by ranking the candidates. Put + and - according to certain criteria.

Which assessment methods to choose

Method 1. Letters of recommendation... Before reviewing the recommendations, clarify the reasons for leaving your previous organization. After that, see what the employer writes about the person, what moral and business qualities he indicates. Ask some guiding questions to see if the information is accurate. For example, check if the applicant has asked for good performance... Of course, few people will answer honestly, but if you observe the reaction to the question, you can draw the right conclusions.

  1. Before the dismissal, a conflict arose between the employee and the employer.
  2. The manager did not want to let the employee go, so he wrote badly about him.
  3. The employee was friends with the manager, and accordingly, he received an ideal description, which he does not correspond to.

For characterization, the business qualities of an employee can be clearly embellished or underestimated. Consider the information, but double-check it in other ways. You will spend time on this, but the risk of accepting an employee with whom you will have to leave because of the inadequacy of his business qualities to the position will be minimized.

Method 2. Tests. Testing will help you assess your business qualities. But you need to understand that the results can be false. Use proven psychological questionnaires or order the development of individual test options. Do not evaluate candidates using online methods - they often make serious mistakes.

Keirsey Leadership Questionnaire

Method 3. Interviews. If you decide to evaluate your business qualities in an interview, prepare questions in advance, for example:

  • List your business qualities.
  • What task or skill have you recently learned? What did they do for this?
  • Share a time when you did more than was required at work.
  • If your best friend was sitting next to you now, what would he call your best quality?
  • If you could change one thing in your approach to difficulties, what would it be?
  • How would your manager describe you in 3-5 words?
  • What motivates you in the professional field?

Make the questions so that the answer to them demonstrates those business qualities that you consider necessary in the work. If a person argues a lot, but at the same time does not speak of the case, be wary. This is a bad quality for absolutely all employees - they think a lot and do little.

Method 4. Non-standard methods... Evaluate personal and business qualities in a new way. Get creative. Ask for a job seeker. Be prepared for the fact that some candidates do not understand styles and compositions, so they will name songs. Correctly correct them, but take note of this. As a rule, their general development leaves much to be desired. During the interview, ask the applicant to describe or write a story based on any painting.
