Open climbing wall business plan for profitability. Approximate calculation of financial costs. Step-by-step instructions for opening a climbing wall

If you decide to start a climbing business in the regions, chances are you won't have many competitors. This area is convenient for aspiring entrepreneurs because it is scalable. You can start low and expand gradually by reinvesting profits. A business plan for opening a climbing wall will be able to clearly explain the essence of this organization.

In some cities there are still industrial facilities that are located near the central streets, so why not make a climbing wall there. The main services are rock climbing training.

List of services that can be provided:

    • one-time visits;
    • group for adults;
    • group for children;
    • family workouts;
    • team building;

Instructions on how to open and what is needed for this

To answer the question of how to open a climbing wall and what is needed for this, we have given a superficial list of steps to implement the idea. Opening stages:

  1. Market analysis.
  2. Search for premises.
  3. Equipment purchase.
  4. Registration of an individual entrepreneur or LLC.
  5. Hiring employees.
  6. Advertising launch.

Stage 1 - execution and preparation of documents

In terms of documentation, in this business you will have to obtain some permits, also present certificates of equipment quality and safety. Required documents:

  • certificate and registration of individual entrepreneur;
  • certificate from SES;
  • instructor qualification documents;
  • trainee briefing documents;
  • permission from the fire department.

Stage 2 - finding a room

The room, in this case, plays one of the most important roles. It is desirable that the climbing wall be located in a walkable and conspicuous place. The main thing is that the room is not cold. If a suitable object does not have insulation, it is imperative that winter period, equip it with electric heaters. The approximate area of the premises must be at least 70 sq. M. and have high ceilings.

Stage 3 - purchase and installation of the necessary equipment

A sport like rock climbing is very extreme, so you need appropriate equipment. As with any situation, you can choose better quality equipment or worse and cheaper. But in a niche like this, it's best not to take risks and get quality tools.

Equipment you need:

  • ropes (from 10,000 rubles);
  • safety systems (from 25,000 rubles);
  • downhill device (from 20,000 rubles);
  • components (from 15,000 rubles);
  • set of hooks (from 25,000 rubles);
  • climbing wall (from 150,000 rubles);
  • fastening bolts (from 5,000 rubles).

Stage 4 - recruiting

The number of employees required depends on the size of the project. But even if you start with a minimum climbing area and training area, you will need at least two employees. It is better that the instructor also has an assistant. All coaches must be certified, and preferably have the title of Master of Sports in rock climbing or other extreme sports. Also, do not forget about the knowledge of rendering the first medical care.

Required employees:

  • administrator (35,000 rubles);
  • trainer - instructor (45,000 rubles).

Stage 5 - promotion and advertising

How to sell your services:

  • advertising on the Internet;
  • creating climbing gym pages to in social networks;
  • distribution of leaflets;
  • sale of team building services for business.

Financial plan

In this niche, the main financial anchor is the rental of premises. Since the premises are large in size, the rent will be appropriate. To save money, analyze how much profit this establishment brings per month and determine the possibility of buying out the premises.

  • premises (100,000 rubles);
  • employees (80,000 rubles);
  • equipment (250,000 rubles).

Total: 430,000 rubles.

Potential risks

Of the risks, you should pay attention to the main ones inherent in attractions. These are negative customer reviews and training injuries. To avoid such moments, you need qualified personnel and reliable installation of equipment. Also, it is worth considering the ratio of high rents and profits from the climbing wall. If the latter is less, the business will simply be unprofitable.

The fashion for an active lifestyle has become a fertile ground for business development. Thus, projects in the "accessible extreme" format show high demand, offering everyone to test themselves for strength without harm to health. Vadim Bratsky, a businessman and owner of the Vysota climbing wall, spoke about how to open a climbing wall and turn it into a profitable business. The material was prepared with the expert support of the manufacturer of sports equipment - the Tsari of Sparta company.

Climbing wall is an artificial structure that imitates the topography of a rock. The construction of the climbing wall is a metal frame sheathed with panels made of moisture-resistant plywood or a combined material based on plywood and fiberglass. There are also climbing walls, the surface of which is completely made of fiberglass. Climbing hooks, shaped like small stones, are attached to the entire surface of the climbing walls.

For the first time, the opportunity to practice indoor rock climbing appeared for outdoor enthusiasts only in the 1980s. It was then that the French engineer François Savini developed the hooks and construction of the first climbing wall. At that time, indoor rock climbing was of interest mainly to athletes and climbers - to prepare for competitions and difficult hikes. But the relative safety and availability of this activity has led to the fact that indoor rock climbing has become a popular outdoor activity with a mass audience.

Climbing gyms as freestanding sports attractions open in parks, shopping centers on floors with entertainment, recreation centers. Climbing training centers are promoting the idea that climbing is, among other things, a more fun alternative to fitness. And, thus, they try to attract not only future champions to the classes, but also people who just want to keep themselves in shape. At that moment, when there was a massive interest of a solvent audience in rock climbing, climbing walls became a business.

Sports and recreational climbing market

According to Internet directories:

  • there are 46 climbing walls in Moscow
  • in St. Petersburg - 21
  • in Yekaterinburg - 8
  • in Kazan - 3
  • in Novosibirsk - 7
  • in cities with less than 1 million inhabitants, most often, no more than 1-2 climbing walls function

But, despite the relative freedom of the market, when opening a climbing wall, entrepreneurs are faced with high competition. The fight for the client has to be done on two fronts: sports (competition with fitness centers, swimming pools) and entertainment (competition with entertainment centers, roller-balls).

Various segments

In the entertainment segment the profitability of the climbing wall depends primarily on impulse demand, therefore a good place accommodation is a site with high traffic of people who are inclined to active rest and corresponding spending (parks, squares, floors with entertainment in shopping centers, etc.).

In the sports segment for creating profitable business it is necessary to develop a training program taking into account the needs of different audiences and constantly invest in expanding customer base... The target audience of the sports climbing wall is schoolchildren, as well as young and middle-aged people who watch their shape. But that's in theory. In practice, schoolchildren and their parents, choosing the sports section, rarely consider the climbing direction. And people who want to keep fit often don't see climbing as an alternative to fitness or other traditional workouts.

This is due, first of all, to the still rather low awareness of people about the possibilities of rock climbing. Therefore, the first thing to do when opening a sports climbing center is undertake a large-scale advertising campaign, focusing on the benefits and unique possibilities of climbing... Moreover, this kind of sport and active recreation really has a number of invaluable advantages:

  • people with any level of physical fitness have the opportunity to start classes;
  • load on all muscle groups, which as a result gives the most elaborated figure reliefs;
  • lack of routine, maximum drive and new emotions;
  • during classes, stress, tension is removed, fears go away, trust in people increases (first of all, in the insurance instructor, on whose correct actions the safety of the climber depends);
  • purposefulness and self-confidence grow, mental abilities increase, volitional qualities, discipline and responsibility develop;
  • rock climbing is one of the most effective ways adaptation of children with disabilities (mental retardation, down syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism), as well as rehabilitation of athletes after injuries;
  • sport climbing is included in the program of the Olympic Games; accordingly, the importance of this sport is recognized at the highest level.

Seasonality

Seasonality is typical for both recreational and sports climbing walls. If the climbing wall is indoor entertainment complex or a mall, the attendance usually drops with the onset of the warm season, when people tend to spend more time outdoors. When placed in a park or at a recreation center, respectively, the opposite is true: the warmer it is outside, the more visitors.

In the sports segment, attendance most often falls in summer period time. Children and adults go on holidays and vacations, regular sports activities temporarily fade into the background.

Types of climbing walls by appointment:

  • Sports. Tall, with difficult sections, designed for training.
  • Sports and entertainment. Height from 4 meters; are intended, first of all, for short entertaining "passes" of 15 minutes, but it is possible to conduct full-fledged workouts for beginners.
  • Baby. Height up to 3 meters, most often, are part of children's playgrounds, for example, built into a play labyrinth. To ensure safety, the floor near the climbing wall is lined with mats or foam blocks. Designed for free climbing, no instructor-led training.

Types of climbing wall structures:

  • Wall climbing wall. The metal frame is attached to the wall and floor. They are divided into children (up to 3 meters high) and adults (from 4 meters high, insurance is used to ensure safety).
  • Freestanding climbing wall for outdoor or indoor installation. The metal frame can be both flat and volumetric, for example, representing a cube or polygon. In the first case, one wide plane is used for climbing, in the second, several planes with different sides, the width of one plane - from 1.5 m. To ensure the stability of the freestanding climbing wall, a counterweight weight is used.
  • Bouldering climbing wall(English bouldering - climbing boulders). Climbing wall with difficult terrain up to 4 meters high, gymnastic mats are used to ensure the safety of athletes, climbing insurance is not provided.

Climbing gym business plan and financial model

The financial success and the payback period of the climbing wall depend, among other things, on the region, the market situation, the presence of competitors, the chosen construction of the climbing wall. Consider financial aspect on the example of the climbing center "Height".

Description of the project

Sports center specialization:

  • bouldering training (a type of climbing with an emphasis on difficulty and overcoming difficult terrain) for children and adults
  • climbing school for children
  • adaptive training for children with disabilities
  • recovery training for athletes with injuries
  • organizing sports events for children (private birthdays, climbing festival, summer climbing camp for children)

Sports equipment design. climbing wall for bouldering, height - 4 meters, length - 18 meters (the climbing wall is located along the wall). Soft safety mats are installed on the floor.

Placement location. Moscow region, Balashikha.

Features of the room. Area 200 sq. m, ceiling height 4 meters.

Market situation. At the time of opening (2017), there were no other climbing walls in the city, therefore, there was no competition.

Financial performance

Initial investment size:

Average monthly income:

Average monthly expenses:

It should be taken into account that in the first six months of work (and if the start took place in the summer calm period, then the first 6-9 months) there will be approximately 3 times less clients. And only after the end of the "swing" period, with the proper use of advertising and marketing tools, as well as with the availability of qualified employees, will it be possible to reach the income level indicated in the table. Taking into account these reservations, the planned payback period of the described project is 2 years.

As a form of ownership for a sports and entertainment facility, an individual entrepreneur or LLC with a simplified taxation system will be optimal.

Selection and preparation of premises

To locate the climbing center, it is important to choose bright room with high ceilings... So, for placing a bouldering climbing wall, a room with a ceiling height of 4-6 meters is suitable, for vertically located sports climbing walls, the ceiling height in the room depends on the height of the climbing wall. It is important that shower cabins can be arranged in the room. One more mandatory requirement- availability of parking.

And the most important factor for successful business Is the presence of traffic. To do this, it is advisable to choose a room located inside a densely populated area, in the city center or near the center of traffic attraction (large shopping center, etc.).

There is another scenario - to open a climbing wall in an industrial zone, pump up advertising, form a base of regular guests, and then move to the center or a densely populated area, to a premises with a higher rent. This is exactly what happened with the Vysota climbing wall: when all the work was completed and the project began to bring the expected income, it was decided to move. This happened a year after the start of the business.

Mandatory areas of the climbing center:

  1. Garberob
  2. Showers and toilets
  3. Recreation areas
  4. General fitness training area (warm-up)
  5. Climbing training area, right next to the climbing wall

As for the decoration of the premises, the most important thing in this part is to find a competent designer who will understand the ideology of the project, develop a brand book and arrange the premises in accordance with it. A modern climbing wall should look modern, bright and friendly. You can create this atmosphere with a variety of design tools.

Choosing a climbing wall design

A climbing wall located along the walls requires individual design, which takes into account the configuration of the room, the presence of arches, beams, and height differences on the ceiling. Also, when developing an individual project for a climbing wall, you can beat doorways, windows, corners and other reliefs.

Ideally, the design and selection of the climbing gym's configuration coincides with the stage of finding a room. Then the climbing wall manufacturing company will act as an outside expert and help you choose the best placement. For the Vysota center, the climbing wall was manufactured by the Tsars of Sparta company according to an individual project.

A freestanding climbing wall can be installed in the center of the room, without reference to the relief of the walls and other parameters of the room, so you can use a typical project.

Climbing center staff

The average salary of a qualified climbing instructor / administrator with sports skills (in the Moscow Region) is 50,000 rubles per month.

The staff of instructors should be calculated based on the flow of visitors. Indoors up to 200 sq. m requires 2 instructors per shift.

The qualified personnel of the climbing wall are people with both high athletic skills and sales skills. And if the latter can be taught to employees already in the process of work, then sports skills should be a “pre-installed option”. Ideally, the team will have certified climbing instructors. To do this, you must undergo training in an organization that has a license to maintain educational activities in the corresponding sports direction. In particular, on the basis of the Russian Climbing Federation, there are instructor courses, training is carried out in Moscow.

In general, absolutely all employees of the climbing center must have sports skills and practice rock climbing themselves. This applies not only to instructors, but also, for example, administrators who accept applications and communicate with clients. The sporting spirit is an important part of the atmosphere of the climbing center.

Marketing and advertising

To draw up a competent marketing plan, first of all, pay attention to the work of successful competitors (possibly in other regions) or business projects in related industries. For example, advertising tools borrowed from swimming pools and children's swimming schools will work well to promote a children's climbing school. In any case, to promote leisure and outdoor services, there are a number of must-have tools that need to be tested and mixed.

Among the mandatory promotion tools:

  • The presence of a website and active project pages in social networks.
  • Contextual advertising in search engines and targeted advertising in social networks.
  • Event marketing. Open days, sports festivals, events dedicated to well-known holidays.
  • Cross marketing. Joint promotions with friendly business projects that are not direct competitors, but have a common target audience with you. In the case of a climbing wall, these can be sportswear shops, travel agencies, and healthy food cafes.
  • Seasonal promotions. Reduced price in summer, during low-attendance times of the day.
  • Personal branding of the project manager. Publications in local media, active maintenance of a personal page in social networks with stories about the development of the climbing center.

Pros, cons and possible business risks

The successful development of the climbing wall as a business is based, first of all, on the growing popularity of outdoor activities and a healthy lifestyle among the population, as well as the presence of the indisputable advantages of rock climbing as a type of general physical training. In addition, the climbing wall is original and unusual. Cons repeat the pros - for most regions, rock climbing is too original and needs to be explained target audience why, instead of traditional swimming or dancing, give the child to the climbing wall. The key risk is that climbing is an extreme sport, so maximum safety must be taken into account.

Experts call the current state of the market even in Moscow “deplorable”, and this is great: there is plenty of room for newcomers here.

The country has a lot of climbing walls built by enthusiasts. Metal frames, plywood, paint, a dozen strong hands, climbing experience, and - the structure is ready. Long-known among professionals sites, such as climbing gyms at the capital's Moscow State Technical University. Bauman or MAI, are famous for their low prices. The public likes it, but it is difficult to call such projects commercial in the full sense.

It is believed that the climbing wall will never be profitable, the only possibility is subsidies. But this is not so, - says Dmitry Smaznevich, head of the Skala-City complex. Smaznevich himself came up with the idea to fill the empty niche two or three years ago. Dmitry studied in the Netherlands with a degree in Financial Loans, in free time was engaged in rock climbing. Then he returned to Moscow and discovered: if there are climbing walls in the capital, then they are completely different from the usual Dutch ones. Our climbing walls are low, and besides, some very homemade, handicraft ones. In general, this business has not been put on a broad, commercial footing.

Smaznevich understood: there is every chance of starting his own business, and in 2001 he switched to active action... He began to look for manufacturers, and then, together with a friend, sat down to prepare a business plan. This is where Dutch studies came in handy! “We were taught to draw up business plans, so it turned out to be very interesting. Let's go to one investor, to another. We assembled a team of ten people, found a suitable building, contacted a supplier, and accepted the concept ideologically. Despite the fact that the climbing wall as a simulator is not a new phenomenon, we tried to combine the non-standard idea of the climbing wall proper and a modern sports club, focusing on cleanliness, quality service and comfort. We built a cafe on the second floor, a little further away we have a small gym, locker room, showers and sauna ”.

The most difficult thing in this whole venture, according to Smaznevich, was the promotion period: “The idea is new, there is no one to be guided by, no one gives guarantees. Fearfully! And I also bear all the moral responsibility to the people with whom I work. "

Such enterprises are clearly in demand, as evidenced by the experience of already launched projects - in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan. Even in the regions there are investors willing to invest in the development of this sport. “Entrepreneurs from the provinces are constantly calling me, asking how to repeat our experience, asking about the cost of the project,” admits Alexander Semyonov, head of the Commercial School of Rock Climbing at the climbing wall at the Extreme Shopping Center. Dmitry Smaznevich also feels constant interest from the regionals: “They come from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, from other cities, which I have never even heard of. They are interested and I am always willing to talk. "

Market potential is easy to assess from the experience of other countries. In Germany today there is a climbing wall in almost every town, regardless of its size, town. So Alexander Semyonov is sure that the climbing wall segment will grow like an avalanche. By the way, a characteristic sign: investors in entertainment and shopping centers are increasingly planning a climbing wall at the project level, even if it is small. On the other hand, some of the potential players continue to react rather sluggishly to the prospects of organizing a climbing wall, in particular, chain fitness clubs. “Recently we offered our services to the management of one such club, to which they replied:“ Guys, we haven’t figured out the mini-golf courses yet, and the audience for climbing walls is not yet ripe for sure! ” - Alexander Semyonov recalls.

Shopping centers and private investors are much more agile than the owners of fitness clubs. Recently, an entertainment climbing wall was built on the 71 kilometer of the Moscow Ring Road in the Wijkpark shopping mall, and now it is never empty. Another similar project will start in the south of the capital in a couple of months. And the climbing wall in Kazan made the investors so happy that they immediately decided to invest in the construction of the second "wall".

In terms of capital investment and the composition of the audience, it is necessary to distinguish climbing walls belonging to the category sports centers and entertaining. So, the sports climbing wall in the capital's complex "Extreme", according to its head, is in a sense "home": the club system leads to the fact that it is mainly "their own" who are engaged here. Another thing is the "walls" in shopping centers. This is an attraction for beginners, but not for athletes. Mass climbing walls are just entertainment, the driving force here is, first of all, impulse demand: I came for shopping, I saw a bright, beautiful "rock", I decided to try it.

Often, the clients of such climbing walls then become regular visitors to professional complexes like ours, - says Alexander Semenov. - After all, every beginner who falls in love with rock climbing inevitably goes through evolution. On small climbing walls in shopping and entertainment centers, people try their hand, and for regular classes they come to more serious institutions.

As for capital investments, the "entertainment" wall costs two to three times cheaper. If a climbing wall in the capital of Tatarstan, aimed at a mass visitor, promises to pay off in a year, the Skala-City complex, which relies on the pros, will return the money invested only in three. It's simple: in mall it is enough just to put a "wall", while a "real" sports climbing wall is unthinkable without infrastructure.

The construction of the stand in the shopping center "Extreme" required about 60 thousand dollars and another ten - for repairs, lighting, shower placement and the purchase of sets of rental equipment. The owners of "Skala-City" decided not to disclose the exact amount of investments, but it is known that each meter of the climbing wall cost 500-600 euros here. Market experts are confident that today it is possible to build a world-class climbing wall on a turnkey basis at a price of about 700-800 euros per meter, including the design project, accompanying documentation and the installation of a metal frame. Well, the lower threshold is 200 euros per meter. They say that some people tried to lower the bar to 100 euros. But the result, according to the majority of market participants, is terrible. The payback of a project depends on the location, size of the simulator and the target audience. For example, "Extreme" is aiming at an audience of average income, and "Skala-City" is aiming at the highest price segment.

The construction part in the "rock" business is the most costly, so the decision on whether to be in the center of the bouldering hall (imitation of overhanging "stones"), and how high the main rock will be, is up to the investor. The cost of the project also depends on the configuration, because the walls can be flat, broken, connecting ... And the more complex the relief, the more expensive the project.

No special permits are required for the construction of a climbing wall. By definition, it falls under the "attraction", so the heads of the existing artificial rocks did not experience any problems with registration. The main thing here is a reasonable pricing policy. Today, a client in the capital of a climbing wall for 8 lessons (a course with all equipment) lays out an average of 3.5 thousand rubles. But those who visit such centers for years receive decent discounts - up to 30%. The climbing school brings from 30-40% of income, the rest is actually "climbing" and additional services, including corporate events and children's parties.

Plywood Everest

The project is interesting, it works. The only thing is that in Moscow, under the current circumstances, this business is not very convenient to do on a lease basis. Unfortunately, we do not own the building, we rent it, and this imposes certain restrictions, ”complains Dmitry Smaznevich, while we are examining the Skala-City complex, which occupies an area of about 800 square meters, as part of a short excursion.

Not as profitable as hoped?

Quite profitable. We just cannot turn around, do everything we would like to be here. In terms of payback, a climbing wall in this size is profitable for us, but it makes no sense to do a large project. But if it were our property, we could talk about expansion, replication, and so on. We thought about moving, since the final lease term is known, and we have a backup option for transferring the business to the Moscow region, where the "Skala" will stand until the end of the century - next to other sports and entertainment facilities. If the climbing wall becomes part of a large complex, people will willingly travel from Moscow as well.

The lion's share of the costs required for the construction of any climbing wall falls on construction works and the “right” building is the key to success. The Skala City Center managed to find an ideal building on Kutuzovsky Prospekt: 12 meters to the ceiling and no ceilings. Find! This configuration even complies with international competition standards. “If the hall were lower, there would not have been such a crazy interest in our services. Strictly speaking, height is not required for training. But in order to attract customers ... After all, you have to amaze them with something! " - Dmitry Smaznevich admits. However, the climbing wall can also fit into a room with a lower ceiling. The wall in the shopping center "Extreme" fit under the ceiling height of 7 meters, and visitors are still happy.

How to build a climbing wall? Find a room, prepare a sketch and discuss it with the contractor. The main thing is not to forget to involve experienced climbers in the construction of the tracks and the project as a whole. There are already companies in Russia offering services for the construction of "turnkey" climbing walls, including Alpogor and Sorel-Eco, their services are cheaper than those of foreign firms. But there are also proposals from Eastern Europe. “When we were looking for a supplier, it turned out that the Bulgarian Walltopia is cheaper, much more technologically advanced. Nobody has such plastics, proven technologies. Bulgarians bring 99% already finished product, are able to quickly draw a three-dimensional project, where each shield will be numbered, - says Dmitry Smaznevich ("Skala-City"). “Besides, Bulgarians are somehow closer to us in spirit. And the Dutch, for example, follow the boring scheme “Do you want a project? Pay in advance! " In general, Western European manufacturers charge money for every sneeze. "

There are special requirements for supporting structures, although a self-sufficient box-shaped structure can also be erected. The beech plywood used for the construction of Skala City and the climbing wall in Extreme is a fairly durable material. Conventional exercise machines are made from plywood easier. But when the budget is zero, then the simulators come out of a low grade. Meanwhile, experts are convinced: a commercial project must be beautiful! “Ours has been standing like new for three years already, and I think that in the next five years something is unlikely to happen to him,” says Alexander Semyonov (climbing wall at the Extreme shopping center). Although, the "wall" alone is not enough.

When we wrote a business plan, we focused on key principles business, - confirms Dmitry Smaznevich. - It doesn't matter whether we are building a climbing wall or a helicopter repair terminal ... If there is a good product of good quality and a good location, the price is found by trial and error, advertising. All the rest is unimportant.

By the way, in this business it is rather difficult to start “with something cheap”. It is better to build an interesting and beautiful simulator right away than to complete and alter it later. In "Skala-City" there is a central wall and two "side", overhanging. From the side of the "side" are not very busy, beginners climb, mainly, on the central wall. But they are progressing rapidly, and it is very important to retain customers for as long as possible. “The simulator must have a future. This means that there must be a configuration, constantly changing tracks and a school, ”sums up Alexander Semenov.

In addition to the ventilation and air conditioning system, you will have to spend money on mats, ropes, belay devices and equipment. The presence of a rental park is simply a must, because newcomers come "empty".

Climbers looking for holes

New business needs to be promoted. Otherwise - a pipe! However, in Russia there is a chance to play on the novelty of the service. “They knew about us even before the launch,” recalls Dmitry Smaznevich, “so no special actions were required, we did not pay anyone for advertising. After all, nothing like this existed in the country, people themselves picked up the rumor, then the press came and spread the idea. "

Your own website on the Internet works well for promotion, publications on how to kill your free time. And yet, the participants in this business consider word of mouth to be the main means of informing potential customers.

Regular customers are the foundation economic security any business. But who is ready to climb the wall regularly today? The audience is vast, albeit a motley one. First of all, these are amateurs with experience - rock climbing was a popular activity in the USSR. This audience will gladly take the opportunity to remember their youth and continue training. Active people between 35 and 50 are likely to splurge on $ 100 a month to attend classes. The second category is younger people, up to 35. Climbing for most of them is a new and very attractive hobby. And, finally, the owners of the current climbing walls urge not to forget about young people from wealthy families. If you look closely at the social composition of those who “climb the wall” for money, it turns out that, despite the apparent specifics, most of the visitors are ordinary people.

At the same time, the lion's share of clients are working people. This means that you will have to adjust the work of the center for them and not close before 11 o'clock in the evening. It is almost impossible to achieve round-the-clock occupancy of the sports complex, this is Sisyphean labor. Like any other recreational facility, the climbing wall works to its maximum only on strictly defined days and hours. The rest of the time - neither wobbly nor roll. "Peak" of the season in summer time- these are evenings on weekdays, and in winter - the same evenings and weekends. In order to increase income during the "low" hours, entrepreneurs introduce additional services, come up with unusual programs that attract a different audience. After all, climbing walls can be rented for trainings, team buildings, children's parties. “I cannot say that these areas are donors, they do not bring regular income. But it also happens: one corporate client held his event and - evened out the recession of the whole summer. Well, we spend children's birthdays outside of working hours, so we don't risk anything, ”says Dmitry Smaznevich.

Prices are a special issue. Someone takes for individual climbing. Someone - for conducting lessons. So in the center "Skala-City" they experimented with prices for a long time. At first, they took money only for a one-time visit. Then they introduced cards for 10 visits. Then - by 15 to increase the loyalty of visitors. Several times they simply doubled or tripled prices and watched the reaction. And, finally, we divided the “cheap” and “expensive” time. “It's hard to say which is better - ten people for a ruble or one for ten. We cannot completely lower the bar, this is too expensive a toy. Therefore, it is necessary to keep at the required level of profitability. I think we have average prices in Moscow, ”says Alexander Semyonov.

As for the staff, since we are talking about the safety of newcomers, an instructor and two administrators are always required to be present in the room. By the way, the rate of instructors should include interest in order to interest them in attracting new clients. Today the climbing school brings the Skala-City complex from 10 to 40% of the income. And you don't have to chase the stars. The instructors at Skala are specially trained by a full-time psychologist, so they have already learned how to “sell” the idea: rock climbing is an expensive, elite sport, and not just entertainment!

Climbing wall in detail

Investments... You can meet the amount of up to 50-60 thousand dollars. The cost of structures is from 200 to 700-800 euros per square meter of "wall" (on a turnkey basis).

Formats... The most common options are a "massive" climbing wall in a shopping mall, entertainment center and an independent "professional" complex.

Payback period... From one (a massive climbing wall on the territory of a shopping or leisure center) to three years (a separate complex).

Certificates and Licenses... Not required - subject to registration as an attraction.

Audience and prices... A wealthy audience capable of shelling out about $ 100 for eight to ten lessons a month. Retention programs required regular customers... Moreover, the height of such a wall and the complexity of the route along which everyone who wants to stretch their muscles will climb can be different.

The most suitable place to open a climbing wall is a shopping and entertainment complex. After all, there is always a large flow of people, which cannot but affect the level of income. In addition, in such complexes there is always a high ceiling, which greatly facilitates the installation of walls of any height.

If we talk about the degree of complexity of climbing walls, then the most expensive is a full-fledged sports wall, since there are slopes of all types of difficulty on it. The most accessible version would be an entertaining, simplified version. All this must be taken into account when drawing up a climbing gym business plan.
